What Do You Know About Spinal Decompression?

Home | Chiropractor 1

If you have spinal disc problems because of a sports injury or car accident, or problems stemming from prolonged movement done at work or even from prolonged hours of sitting that forces fluid out of the discs resulting in degeneration, spinal decompression therapy may be just what our chiropractor ordered!

When it comes to treating lower back pain and neck pain, non-surgical spinal decompression therapy can be effective at relieving your pain and helping to promote an optimal healing environment if you have problems with your spinal discs (the gel-like cushions located between the bones of your spine).

This form of spinal decompression therapy helps relieve back pain and leg pain by gently stretching the spine, whether with a traction table or another motorized device. Spinal decompression changes the force and position of the spine through a reduction of pressure to take pressure off of your discs, for those with degenerative disc disease, or bulging or herniated discs. This is done by helping the discs to retract and thereby removing the pressure on the nerves and other spinal structures. The result? Restoring proper movement of fluids through increased blood flow and sending oxygen into the discs to facilitate faster cellular healing. This is important because typically discs have a poor blood supply.

Whether you have sciatic pain down the leg, worn, damaged or diseased spinal nerve roots, facet (joint) syndrome, or headaches, non-surgical spinal decompression therapy can help.

Spinal decompression is not for those patients who have the following:

-You have had previous surgeries that involve screws, metal plates, or cages
-If you have unstable spondylolisthesis (where one of the vertebrae slips out of place into the bone below it)
-If you have a recent spinal compression fracture
-If you have severe nerve damage
-If you have severe osteoporosis
-If you are severely obesity
-You are pregnant
-If you have cancer

If you have questions about spinal decompression therapy and would like to learn more, our skilled chiropractors, Dr. Dan Hendricks, and Dr. Spencer Rollins are happy to address your questions and concerns. They have the experience you want along with the proper equipment to facilitate healing using low-level light lasers in addition to the spinal decompression therapy. They will also work with you one-on-one, to teach you strengthening exercises for your neck and lower back to prevent future injury.

We invite you to call our friendly staff at Health & Wellness Clinic in Layton, Utah, today at 801-784-4807. We are also pleased to schedule you for a free consultation or for your first appointment as a new decompression patient!

If you have recently been in a car accident, you know how scary it can be, and not just from an emotional standpoint. Emotionally it can be unsettling and disorienting, but it can also be very painful if you have sustained injuries. Unfortunately, without treatment, physical effects can linger on long afterward and are sometimes life-changing, especially if you are not fully aware of the extent of your injuries.

There’s the stress from the incident itself, then the aftercare. You may be working with insurance companies, your workplace, paperwork, lawyers, or even need assistance in dealing with your day-to-day duties, depending on the severity of the injuries.

Our goal is to help ease you into recovery without needing to rely on prescription pain medicine – or other drugs that can come with serious side effects – just to relieve your symptoms. We can diagnose and treat your condition, including how your injuries impact other parts of your body and make improvements wherever possible.

When you’ve been in an auto accident, no matter if it was a minor fender bender or a serious collision, you might incur side effects either big or small, and whether you were the driver or passenger in the vehicle. It is common to have whiplash leaving you with damaged tendons or a pinched nerve when you try to move or twist in a specific direction following an accident. Other common accident injury symptoms may include:

– Pain in your neck, back, or shoulders
– Dizziness or blurred vision
– Diminished range of motion in the back or neck areas
– Headaches or migraines

Treatment might involve more than one area of your body and it might include your back, neck, or your soft tissues. You might find yourself with headaches or other issues that may manifest over time. Our goal is to address problems early before they become greater and affect other areas of your body. Your personalized treatment plan may involve having chiropractic adjustments, massage therapy, physical therapy, low-level laser, and specialized disk treatments. We can help bring back your range of motion, for example, and lessen your need to medicate pain.

Using these treatments we will not only diminish or get rid of pain symptoms but also restore full range of motion in the spine and neck areas. Dr. Daniel Hendricks and Dr. Spencer Rollins in Layton, Utah, look forward to restoring your quality of life. Please call 801-544-4333 to schedule your appointment.
